France go into the World Cup play-offs on the back of a win after they saw off Austria 3-1 in Paris.
With top and second place already decided before the last round of fixtures in Group 7, the pressure was off for Les Blues and they ran out comfortable winners in the end.
First-half goals from Karim Benzema and Thierry Henry set France on their way, although a strike from Marc Janko a couple of minutes after the break brought Austria back in with a shout.
But Toulouse forward Andre-Pierre Gignac bagged the third goal for Raymond Domenech's side on 67 minutes, leaving them only one point behind Serbia in the final standings.
Group-toppers Serbia had already booked their place in South Africa and complacency set in as they went down 2-1 in Lithuania.
Lithuania finish in fourth place after the surprise win, thanks to two penalties scored by Mindaugas Kalonas and Marius Stankevicius.
Serbia managed an equaliser through Milan Jovanovic on the hour mark, but it was not enough in the end as they succumbed to their second defeat in the group.
Elsewhere, Romania finished off their poor campaign on a high with a 3-1 win over group minnows the Faroe Islands.
Iulian Apostol opened the scoring for the home side after a quarter of an hour, before Gheorghe Bucur doubled the lead on 65 minutes.
Bo grabbed a goal back for the Faroe Islands on 84 minutes, which was only their fifth of the entire qualifying campaign, before Ionut Mazilu sealed the win with two minutes remaining.
