Coach Otto Rehhagel faces a difficult challenge in selecting his first choice shot-stopper after Chalkias made five appearances as a replacement for Antonios Nikopolidis in the latter matches of the qualifying stages.
However, the giant Chalkias - who stands at six feet, six inches tall - could now have ousted Nikopolidis as Greece's No.1.
Chalkias will stick in the minds of Portsmouth supporters following his five-game stint in the Premier League outfit's first-team during the 2004/2005 season.
These memories, though, are unlikely to be positive as Chalkias was notable for his slightly erratic style of play and he was soon shipped out to Real Murcia before joining current club Aris Thessaloniki.
Chalkias was a member of Greece's victorious Euro 2004 squad, but he failed to make an appearance during the finals.
