Wales Under 21 boss Brian Flynn will be hoping to open up a 10-point gap over their Italian counterparts at the Liberty Stadium on Friday.
Wales have taken seven points from their opening three games in Group 3 while Pierluigi Casiraghi's side open their campaign with this tricky trip to Swansea.
Flynn has a couple of injury worries ahead of their first big test in the group as Jack Collison did not train with the squad on Friday and Ched Evans is battling against a stomach bug.
Collison, who has six caps for the Wales senior side, was expected to withdraw from the squad after the death of his father but decided to remain before picking up a knee injury which threatens his place in the side.
Chris Gunter and Lewin Nyatanga will not feature after senior boss John Toshack called them up for Wales' World Cup qualifier against Russia.
Casiraghi, who took Italy Under 21s to the semi-finals of the European Championships in Sweden, named a virtually new squad with only Mario Balotelli and Andrea Rannochia surviving.
Inter Milan's 16-year-old prodigy Lorenzo Crisetig is the youngest player ever to be named in the Italy Under 21 squad and will make history should he appear at the Liberty Stadium.
The Italians, who are favourites to win the group, have no injury worries ahead of the game and will be looking to get their campaign off to a winning start with an away victory.
